Term 2

Term 2 is well under way. To support our theme 'Explore, Dream, Discover', Room 8 have been busy investigating 'Our Changing World'. To guide our learning we have focused on this statement 'Natural features are changed and resources are affected by natural events.' Our main line of inquiry that helped us identify key words and develop good questions was 'Natural events change the environment.' We have used all of this as an umbrella and have investigated a natural feature that is iconic to Nelson - The Boulder Bank. We are planning a trip to check out the effects of longshore drift and erosion.
This learning has been supported with explanation writing, and paper mache art work to create our own Boulder Bank. Photo's are soon to be included!! Our reading programme has included natures way of shaping our world.
For Maths we have explored shapes, reflection, roatation and tesselation. We completed this unit with designing our own individual nets, using pre packaging as a model, and isometric dot paper.
We are also planning a softball tournament with Hira School toward the end of the term. Other syndicate wide dates can be found in the newsletter link on the left hand side of this page.
We will finish off the rest of the term with 'The Force Be With You', a scientific investigation on movement, using 'The principles behind Leonardo's science'.
